The Simultake Method was created by Robert Ben Mitchell in July of 2025 for simultaneous filming of two scenes from different time periods or dimensions which share the same dialogue, so as to maximize organic cuing between the actors and to increase both production and editing efficiency.
Simultake was inspired by the 1950s Desilu Method, pioneered by Desi Arnaz and cinematographer Karl Freund for the show "I Love Lucy," in which three cameras were set at different angles to simultaneously film one scene, rather than using one camera to film the same scene three times from different angles.
The Simultake and Desilu methods are similar in that they both increase organic cuing between the actors, and they both maximize production and editing efficiency.
The Simultake and Desilu methods differ in that the Desilu Method was developed to simultaneously film, from three different angles, the same scene, with the same dialogue, in the same time period, while the Simultake Method was developed to simultaneously film, from one or more angles, the same scene, with the same dialogue, in two or more time periods or dimensions.
Simultake will be used for the very first time to film Robert Ben Mitchell's entire 90-minute, 2026 feature film CHOICES - a new play by Lentil Reisfahl.
